Discussions about twinning Kidderminster with Husum in Germany first took place in 1955 as a result of a Government initiative to promote reconciliation between British and German communities and assist with post war rebuilding in Germany.
It was in 1956 that representatives from Kidderminster first visited Husum and representatives from Husum in return visited Kidderminster. The Independent Twinning Association was formed in 1974 following the restructuring of the local
council and in 1976 a formal Twinning Charter was signed in Kidderminster followed by it’s signing in Husum in 1977.
Since 1956 many exchange visits have been arranged including youth groups, schools, churches and choirs and on an annual basis both the Kidderminster and Husum Carnival Queens visit each others coronations.
